I don't remember Mike ever making that claim. Why take his name in vain?

Good read. Mike is the best and I don't care who 's on first.

I wish you hadn't taken Mike's name in vane, but still a good read. Since, I am one of few on this forum who love shooting the trapdoor, I enjoyed the read. I shoot a 525 grain Brooks "Turkey Killer". The best so far is a 91/100 at 600 yards, and a 100.4 at 200. Your results may vary.

I have to agree. Mike is a fine man and that was in pretty poor taste.

Re: Venturino wasn't the first!
Indeed, It is common knowledge FOR A LONG TIME about the Sandy Hook long range tests of the 45-70
Mike never tried to consider himself a first on long range BPCR shooting. In fact, I believe he even talked about
the Adobe Walls long shot of the late 1800s, too.
I do give him great credit for one of the people publicizing in his writings and his books, the Reviving of the BPCR shooting of the 1880s.

Very easy to misunderstand the meanings of the written word, no need for anyone to take offence before explanations of intent are known. IMO.
And in this year everyone's hackles are a bit on edge anyway, understandably so.

Longknife 76,
"Venturino wasn't the first to do long distance tests of the 45-70 Gov.!!"
Its just that your "tone" of the comment, with the period and two exclamation points seemed
rather critical as if Mike was trying to take some credit for something original.
In this case Mike and company just
were talking about the Proving ground In Order to simply do a "remake" of what they
already know what had been done back then at Sandy Hook.
No different than what we were doing locally here in re-doing the famous "bucket" shot from the Quigley movie
as a bonus target in our gong matches. In our local case, at the matches formerly held at Abbotsford, the "bucket"
was a 1# powder can at 506yards. Lately, at my club we shoot at a bowling pin at 600yds for our bonus target.
No offence meant on my part, and Welcome to the fun of bantering back and forth,
as long as we all try to "be nice" and learn from and with each other. Please stick around. and do not have too
much of "thin skin" .
