Re: .40-65 barrel markings
I am looking at one that the dealer says it is a .40-65 but the barrel is marked “Caliber 40” over “2 1/2” which I thought would make it a .40-70 straight unless I am losing it

If it is really a Shiloh and it's marked Calibre 40 and under that stamp 2 1/2 it's a .40-70

If you call them with the serial number they should be able to give you any further details you may want to know, twist rate for instance, maybe which chamber.
I agree that it is a 40-70.
My 40-65 is marked:
Caliber 40
40-65
