Sight adjustment
I have a new Shiloh with buckhorn sights and a blade front that I ordered for hunting. I'm shooting a constant 2 1/2" to the left at 50 yds and 5-6 in at 100 yds. My question is which sight should I move to correct this? Front or rear?

Re: Sight adjustment
I'd move either one or both depending on how well centered they are on the rifle right now. I like to keep the sights fairly well centered over the barrel and so I'll generally begin with whichever sight is most off-center in the direction opposite of what it needs to move to be centered on the top flat or whatever.

Re: Sight adjustment
it could be YOU. if if shoots left, it means you are pulling the shot into your shoulder when you pull the trigger. set trig. will do this too.
try pulling the stock tighter into your shoulder, this will minimize the movement.
I would do all this before I moved the sights on a new Shiloh.
pulling tighter compensates for the heavy hammer blow of the Sharps. I find my groups are much smaller when I do this.
same reason the Army taught us to aim at the knees, you will pull up on the shot.
Personally, I don't think I would try to group my shots if someone was shooting at me...but that's just ME.

Re: Sight adjustment
Shots are fine vertical. I've shot about 50 rounds and the target says it's left. I sent Kirk a message for recommendations also, I figure he's busy . The rear sights are more involved to move so I thought Id ask those that have been doing this longer than I.

Re: Sight adjustment
The majority of my open sight guns are Lever action. If I have a problem-with grouping I usually step back and work on me first. I'll let Jeanne shoot the rifle and then I'll go back later, shoot the load I'll be using and then make a decision from there.
With lever guns we shoot 100% of our match shots standing..and most of our lever guns ( 26 last count) all shoot different off a bench rest.
With a BPCR rifle, Jeanne sights in on chickens off sticks and when she stands she has a VERY predictable change in her Point of impact.
Let a bud shoot your rifle. Shoot a little more and then make a decision.
My 50 year old Winchester 94 looks terrible with the rear sight so far to the right...but it's been that way since I was 15.
My latest purchase was a never fired Buffalo Bill 3030..and it was dead on for it's first ever shots.
I think half the fun in shooting is getting the shooter and rifle working together.
Good luck...post some pictures and write about your hunts on here.

Re: Sight adjustment
In my rifles, I move the front sight first, course adjustment...then the rear for fine adjustment.

Do the sights look to be on centerline with the barrel?

They look close to my eyes . I don't imagine it would take much movement.

Re: Sight adjustment
More importantly, what's the distance between the front and rear sights?
