Chip Mate shoots one in I think 45-60.

If I recall correctly it has a toggle link mechanism similar to the 1873 and even a slight overload can mess things up.

I would like to know what bullet you are using. I have a Uberti in that caliber and have not had as good luck with black powder as with 5744.

76 Winchester make sure there is rifling al the way to the muzzle, and doesn’t have bent barrel, I have a 45-75; which wasn’t chambered correct neck was too short, uberti replace the barrel Steve Rhoades installed for me and did a trigger job, shoots great now, got a 40-60 from BACO it came with a bent barrel, got a new barrel from Cimmaron Steve Rhoades install it, shoots great, the wife bought a second 40-60, it was good. Then I found a 50-95 at a gun show new in the box, couldn’t make it shoot turns out there was no rifling on one side of the bore at the muzzle, Cimmaron had a barrel and Steve R. Installed it too.
I shoot a 350 bullet in the 45-75 and also the 50-95, the 40-60 I had Brooks make a 210 + bullet mold.
I have shot black in all of them and my originals 45-75 and 40-60. The lyman 49 edition has smokeless loads for all except the 50-95 in that trail Boss works well.

Shooting grease groove bullets in a sharps is new technology and just a passing fad.

Like Chip, my original is in 45-60 formed from Winchester 45-70 brass. I shoot a 300 grain Brooks with the appropriate crimping groove. I only shoot black, but others I know shoot various smokeless. Initially, it had a very poor bore, but it shot very well. Something must have changed because a couple of years ago, it lost all semblance for accuracy. I sent it to George Dillman at Wy Armory for a reline. Accuracy renewed.

Thank you guys for the replies. Chip, if I get one I will definitely be bugging you for load info, Woody too. I can't decide between a Cimarron or an original. Tough to find an original with a good bore, but then again there is nothing like a real Winchester...

Cody, I have a Uberti in 45-60. It had a horrendous trigger pull as most lever guns do. I got Lee Shaver to fix the trigger and it shoots pretty darn good with a soul sight. It’s really accurate when I seat the bullet clear out and load it like it’s a single shot. I won a few local good ole boy matches with it. Haven’t tried black powder in it yet or paper patch, but I will someday. They are cool big boy levers.

I think the 76 was the last toggle link lever gun Winchester made being identical to the 73 other than size. The 73 for pistol size cartridges and the 76 for rifle length if my information is correct.

Don't believe they were made in a featherweight.
