Has this happen to you?

Post by PacRATT »

After spending the mourning casting a 150 near perfect bullet I dropped the whole tray on the floor damaging 90% of them. “DAMN”. No point in crying over spilled bullet. I put them all back in the pot.
I just opened a bottle of Lagavulin scotch I had hidden in the bar. Life is good again.

I only drop them one at a time.

Once I cast several hundred, lubed them, and stored them in hard plastic trays. Carried them for several thousand miles while on an extended trip around the West. When I attempted to load them while on the road, I found that I had turned them into Wentworth bullets. They had taken on a octagon shape. I was casting and loading on the 4th of July just a few days before the Nationals in Raton. Had to melt and recast.

Oh,don't feel to bad. Oh dumb-bell here once made a whole can of Keith pistol bullets for my .44 mag and when I went to lube them they wallowed around in the lubing die. I went, "what the heck" then put a caliper on them and they turned out to be .410 diameter. The only .40 cal I ever owned was a .41 mag Ruger that got stolen so I still have a can of bullets I can't use some where around here I think as I just didn't have the heart to throw them back into the pot after all that work.

Mdeland, I did the same. I cast 200 PJ 45 Creedmoor for upcoming match only to find when I went to size them I had cast with my .446 Creedmoor mold. At least they didn’t to waste.

 practice makes perfect.
On the bright side at least you were still at home and not at a match , to only find all your carefully crafted ammunition now laying in the dirt getting the exposed lube grooves filled with dust and gravel...

All the above is still better than adding a cold ingot to a batch of molten alloy :? :D

Have hit a 50 round block of powdered cases with my elbow (OOOPPS!), finding a few cases 1/2 full and others with more. Oh well, wasn't the first time on that either  !

It is the boneheaded mistakes and unfortunate accidents that give us so much to talk about after a match, that helps make BPCR shooting so much fun. Good Scotch brings out better stores.
