Thanks Jim, kind of thought that was how it was but didn't know for sure and could not find a lick about it on line which surprised me.

All you guys seem to be having fun with this year's 200 yd Frostbite Postal. I'm jealous!

I'm not sure that I will be able to participate. As I mentioned before, I had COVID in mid-December. Frankly, all through January I didn't have the energy to do any serious shooting. I'm back to my old self now, but the weather is working against me. Snow and ice on the rough mountainous farm road that leads to my shooting range makes it impossible for me to get to the range. :(

Maybe before the end of February . . . but that's coming soon.

Don't think I haven't been following along, with great envy. Good work, guys!

I think with the covid, the primer shortage and the wx, this year is about done, but we'll be back. Better start with the Nov-Dec one first next year.

The only shooting I been able to do is in a very large pile of snow only 20 yards away withy the New DD .44 and .40 bullets
And I didn't even miss the pile

I still don't have the energy to post any targets, but I am optimistic about this shooting season. I have loaded rounds for the matches in March and April at Friendship and am casting for July now. I missed casting in December and January, so I have some catching up to do.

I've got some loaded and waiting for a good day and then I'll shoot once more. I am concerned about the primer situation, not right now but if it continues for an extended time it may get tight. I'm saving primers and powder for better weather and the upcoming shooting season.

Brian,
What is the last date we should be turning in a target for this match?

Kurt,

I have been most interested in your posts about catching bullets in a snow pile. What I have seen in your prior posts is very informative about bullet obturation and how that varies with bullet alloy. Thanks for all that, and please continue.

But I have one question: How much snow is needed? I know we never will have that amount here in Virginia (thankfully).

Cap,

First of all. I'm glad that your still looking down at the green grass, or maybe snow, and not up at the roots fighting that Chinese bug.
The VA will give me my second shot this afternoon.

The penetration depends on the density of the snow. Wet warm snow will stop them closer than cold dry snow. This can vary from 7-8 feet to 12-14 feet.

Would you post the photo and text for me. Finally had some sun instead of snow.

Hi guys. Finally had some sun instead of snow. The target was shot at 100 yards because the range will not let us shoot rimfire at 200 yards. I used a Crossno .22 insert in my Shiloh 74 in 45-70 Gov. Iron sights and from a sand bag rest. Weather was sun, 30 degrees with lots of clouds so it made for some sighting fun as the sun went in and out of the clouds. Wind was gusty from left to right and back again. I tried to time it between gusts. This was the first time I have tried the insert in the rifle. It was slow but worked great. Not used to fishing for cases with a screwdriver. The liner is very picky about the ammo you use. I tried some Winchester I had and it shot between 3 and 4 inch group. Next I tried Federal HV match and the group shrank to half that size. Next I tried the same Federal HV match that I had run through a Neal Waltz die and ended with the group you see in the photo. Group size is 1x2 inch. Looking forward to shooting with you next winter. Maybe I will see one of you at a match this summer. I plan to make the Quigley.
