semtav,
in the spirit of your shoot, how about calling it 40 rod instead of 200 yd.
i might have my rods to yards conversion wrong.

Well, let's see. One rod is 16-1/2 feet. 200 yards is 600 feet. So 200 yards is 36.36363636363636 . . . rods.

So you want to call it the "36.36363636363636 Rods Postal"?

I think I'm going to have to stick with yards, thank you!

P.S.

40 rods is actually one furlong, 1/8 mile, or 220 yards.

For you guys in Oz, 40 rods is pretty close to a rounded, familiar measure. It is 201.1680 meters (whatever the heck meters are)!

Well bruce is certainly "special", I'll give him that!

I will most like be shooting 219 yards give or take a bit. Can I be special too or do I have to sneak up closer to the target?

If we 're going to be doing this match every year I should probably put up a new target frame at 200 yards. That would be a little hard now because the ground is frozen solid. It won't work for me to set up a bench closer to the target because I would much prefer to shoot from my shack so while I'm not out of the cold I am at least out of the brutal winter winds. I guess I'm getting old!

I think I'll just call it 200 and keep it simple.

Jim,
Shooting from a heated shack cant be done. This is called a Frostbite match.

Jim,
we'll treat this like golf, get too good and we'll move you back even farther. That's why I'm at 197 yds !!

Ok so it's heated! The window is open and it's not insulated and the heated is actually warm if you're about 6 inches in front of it! In January and February my wet patches will still freeze up and by the end of 10 shots I won't be able to feel the fingers on my ungloved right hand. Trust me I'll be cold enough to qualify for frostbite!

If I have to move back far enough I can shoot out the window from the dining room table up at the house and that would be much warmer and closer to the coffee pot!

I may have missed something, So:
To be clear, since we are doing string measure,
can we use any target of choice?
Thanks
