It was sure tough for me Kenny. I lost 41 lbs during the 2 1/2 weeks I was sick in the hospital and basically had to learn how to walk again when I came home.

Kenny, although I shot better than I expected, my main reason for going up there was to see friends like you which I hadn't seen in several years. Worth every hour spent driving alone up there and back from Mississippi.

Folks it is becoming more and more apparent that Vitamin D plays a part in how bad it is. It can't hurt you to take some and might just save your life.

https://vitamindforall.org/letter.html

I have a friend that that pulled through. Mid to late 70's in age, overweight, COPD, I believe he had been taking Vitamin D. I seem to remember having asked him. His pulmonologist said he was fortunate to still be alive.

My wife is back treating patients again and we are doing everything to make sure that neither of us become infected. The hospital needed help and asked her to go back on the floor. Once again they are using her to wean COPD'ers off oxygen and help other folks that have breathing issues (other than Covid). At this time they are keeping her away from the Covid infected people.

dr I've seen some favorable reports on Vit D also. There is a peer reviewed study done here in MS showing some positive effect using OTC Pepcid ac and Zyrtec. Have also seen some reports where a person's blood type may seem to have some bearing on severity with A+(like me) doing the worst and type O being best with milder symptoms. The variability of this disease is amazing with some people dying and some people being asymptomatic. I've seen 14 positive cases just today in my clinic. It is raging here now in Jasper County.

Normally my wife is a lung navigator, she works with/tracks patients that come through 5 different ER's that have lung nodules, plus she teaches smoking cessation classes. The hospitals are full here in Akron, Ohio and she had volunteered earlier in the year to help out, so they asked her again.

The Cleveland Clinic had over 1000 staff members testing positive for Covid, the hospital where MK works, had over 120 spread across a couple campuses.

So far we have avoided it, I tested clean to have another of a long string of orthopedic surgeries on the 8th. The Crystal Clinic is a specialty ortho hospital/doctor group and they are being very careful. As I said, in order to get the meniscus tear (nbr 2) repaired, I had to have a Covid test.

We haven't stayed home, but we are being very careful about where we go and who we see. We avoid folks that are high risk, just in case MK brings the bug home.

I am doing OK. There are not too many folks to shoot BP with around here. Jeff is out there of course, Smitty is in New Hampshire, Al L. is in Alberta, Ca.

I have been working with the new, passing fad powder, setting up some long range target guns.

AND restoring/modifying/enhancing a 1996 Corvette.

In between orthopedic surgeries. Those are my cross to bear so to speak. 23 now.

I haven't shot my BP guns since the last time Smitty and I drove out to Alliance,Neb. That was 5 years ago.

There is a funny story about that. Smitty and I had been talking about it and arranged the trip. Me of course, with my p*ss poor memory, did not take into account what year it was.

We were half way across 80, in Iowa when my wife called and asked if I knew what day it was. I said (Tuesday ? don't remember exactly). She said.....

our 20th anniversary. I have never been allowed to forget that one.

Good to see you post Dave.

:D this brought back a memory from 50 years ago.
I came home from work and got cleaned up and asked the Wife what's for supper? She looked at me and asked that same question, What day is this :D I said the day and she said you forgot this is our anniversary and I said your right, it's our anniversary why do I have to wish it first? I went back to the truck and gave her the flowers.

Most of us have now had a few acquaintances who have had Covid19, many with minimal effects, a few with hospitalizations. We as a group just need to get thru this. Be safe, wear a mask, and get vaccinated when you can. At this point over two million have had the vaccine. I have as have most of the nurses, docs, and techs at our local hospital. Most have had sore arms and nothing else. Me personally if you choose not to get vaccinated, that is on you. I would rather see everyone I know survive to shoot at our local, regional, and national match. Your choice.

You are right about everybody knows someone that has experienced it. My sis has lived in a nursing home for the last 20 plus years. I knew it was coming sooner or later as I get a letter about twice a week letting me know the status of the home and how many people test positive , both residents and employees. She tested positive and was quarantined ten days ago and was taken out of quarantine yesterday. We have not seen her since last Feb as the home was locked down for the flu before it turned to covid. Our story is lucky as I know others that have not done so well. No shots over here yet, maybe not available.

I have had 3 grand children who tested positive and had symptoms. Head aches, loss of taste etc. I look everyday at the case count in the tri state area. SD, ND, and Mt. Beginning of November we were the center of the Pandemic as far as deaths per 100,000, which made me wonder about how this was going to go, because basically no one or business or schools were 100% mask mandated. I wear one if the businesses require. We ate supper at a restaurant in ND where it was packed as usual, the next evening we had a birthday party in a bowling alley in the same town, not a mask to be seen, except for the employees, and the place was full. That state of ND had less than 100 cases state wide yesterday. Mt. and SD were under 300 and 500 I believe. Where at one time we were pushing up to 2000 per day. No Thanksgiving surge, just cases plummeting. The only real bad places for Covid are in the staff at the hospitals who are mandated to wear masks and all the PPE. I will continue to wear a mask and social distance where required and I carry sanitizer in every vehicle. Hopefully the rest of the country can soon see the trend downward as we have. And hopefully we don't get a resurgence again.

I am convinced that a high dose of D and other vitamins kept my butt out of the hospital. The second day I could barely get out of my recliner but the 3rd day I could. Was still sick as hell but O2 levels stayed up and was able to function but I slept around 18 hrs a day. After 6 weeks I think I'm over the residuals......I hope.

One things for sure. Do not get the idea that it'll wear off.....you have to do something quick!

We’ve been following the prophyaxis protocol from the www.EVMS.edu/covidcare website following exposure on two occasions. There are 2 that are slightly different; we're using the one from pages 8-9 (of a total of 38 or 39 pages).

In summary:

(My doctor did not recommend the Ivermectin in the prophylaxis stage)
Vitamin D3—1000-3000 iu/day
Vitamin C—1000 mg twice a day
Quercetin—250 mg/day
Zinc (gluconate?)—50 mg/day (see substitution below)
Melatonin—6 mg/day at bedtime (we have 10 mg)

To that protocol, my son-in-law, a physician in the Chicago area, recommended a couple of changes/additions for the prophylaxis protocol, based on what he is using:

Add either a baby aspirin or a full 325 mg. aspirin daily, only if you are not on another blood thinner
Substitute 220 mg zinc sulfate for the 50 mg zinc gluconate
Add ferrous sulfate 325 mg
Add famotidine (generic Pepcid OTC) 20 mg twice a day

As other posters have stated, these are vitamins and supplements to keep one's immune system healthy.
