BPTR Trophies
I'd asked the brain trust here about this trophy once
I got one reply which was to contact the NRA.
The NRA had no idea what I was talking about.
I never persuaded it further.
Art Jackson was a friend of mine and, an early mentor.
He enjoyed 45-90 Winchester Hi-Walls.
I have fond memories of him sitting at his bench wearing a tweed coat with leather patches on the elbows and shoulders.
At Sunset Mountain F+G you can have your own bench.
Art was always the perfect gentleman.
He was soft spoken and listened, only chiming in when he had something relevant to say.
He was one of the most consistently accurate riflemen I've had the fortune to witness.
So, I'll ask again.
What ever happened to this trophy?

Re: BPTR Trophies
It's probably still in the bowels of the NRA somewhere, they didn't present it at the Nationals like they said they would.
The Castle trophy last I saw it, last Sept, was still in the library at the Whittington Center.

It was melted down for a new set of cuff links and tie pin for Wayne LP.

Re: BPTR Trophies
Some of us grey beards were talking about it at the range last week.
The link I posted is the only info anyone here in NH has about it.
No one here has ever seen it.
Granted, there's not a lot of BPTR or BPCR silhouette shot here.
All the long range shooting falls under Precision Rifle.
I'm just trying to track it down for history's sake as the PR guys think black powder is some sort of voodoo magic.
It's amusing to see their eyes when you talk about compressing powder with a compression die

Re: BPTR Trophies
If you scroll down the page to the Blackpowder section you'll see probably the last ever mention that has been made of that trophy. So unless Brent is right, it's still floating around the basement of the NRA somewhere.

The Castle Trophy is prominently on display in the Whittington Center library, at least was last time we were there in 2020.

Re: BPTR Trophies
Yes it is, but the question is what happened to the Arthur C Lyon trophy that they were supposed to start awarding the top iron man shooter at the BPTR nationals?

Re: BPTR Trophies
In order to be able to research this and answer the original poster's question, Don, who is "they" that were "supposed to start awarding" this trophy? Was this documented somewhere or just a rumor? What year was this purportedly supposed to start? Has it been awarded at any time in the past? Has anyone actually seen this trophy?
Provide more info and I will dig into it.

Re: BPTR Trophies
Somewhere, I can't find it now, but we also had a confirmation that the Jackson trophy was to be awarded to the Iron Man winner. The Ironman is the total score of the shooters that shot the full 6 days of the NRA BPTR National championship, which included 2 days of midrange position fired at 2,3 and 600, 2 days midrange prone 3,5 and 600, and 2 days of Creedmoor 8,9 and 1000.
