It is my opinion that the .44-77, especially when loaded with a paper patch bullets, is the sexiest cartridge of the time! Some may not share that opinion and for those shooters there are many other less interesting cartridges available.
I had to laugh at that statement cause I find myself doing the same thing. Buying guns based on the mental image of the cartridge.
It appears the Old bottlenecks are sexy but the new ones aren't.
Just wondering what cartridges others like to shoot cause they are " sexy"
First, I think there is a difference between "SEXY" and "cute"!
That being said the cartridges I have been drawn to are:
.22 Hornet
.45 ACP
.35 Remington
.44-77 Sharps BN
And I'll throw the .40-50 BN in there because I don't think I can look at one without thinking, "God, that's a cute little bugger!". I do not own one so the pull is not as strong as the others I mentioned, but that does not mean I don't want one.
Yep, i agree, the 44-77 os awsome as is the 45-2&7/8 as well as the 40-50 sbn and the 50-2&1/2 all with patched bullets. They are just balanced looking.

I can't argue with the .45 - 2 7/8 when loaded with a paper patch bullet. Same for the .50 - 2 1/2. They are super cool with pp. Just not a must have for me.
I'd go with the 45-70 in Black powder cartridges. It's steady, dependable and will always be around.
The 30-30 and .357 for the very same reasons.
Nothing flashy in those three, nothing hip..just steady performers who will be there when you need them.
There are those that talk, and those that act. Make a choice.
I've always been drawn to the old BN cartridges too. In addition to the 44-77, I love my 44-40 and 45-75 rifles. Yes, the way the cartridges look is a big factor...
Well sexy maybe but a 40-90-2 5/8" SBN loaded with a 370 grain ppb plain looks good , kinda like a long lean runway model strutting her stuff if you know what I mean. Bobw
sexy...... Anything paper patched, anything that was designed for BP use, General Electric GAU-8 30mm ( there on the nose of a A10)
I dont remember the name of it but, I remember seeing a cannon that was rifled, and the projectile had "fins" if you will, that when loaded followed the rifling. I think it was around the time of the civil war. anyway, always thought that was pretty "sexy" for its time.

I am glad to see a couple people mention the .44 WCF, which I mistakenly omitted, it is hands down my favorite single action revolver cartridge and I have two leverguns so chambered. A great little BPC.
Bob, no flies on the .40 - 2 5/8 with a paper patch bullet!
Glen, you might want to look up "sexy" in the dictionary!
Desirable is another word for sexy..and I find the 45-70, 30-30 and 357 desirable.
One of the funniest lines I have ever heard was a bud of mine looking at a really sexy woman and saying " Bath her and Bring her to me"
I guess when Jeanne processes her cases I can say " tumble them and bring them to me."
There are those that talk, and those that act. Make a choice.
Don't misunderstand me all three of those are great cartridges, each set the standard in their class in history and I have guns chambered for all three. I shoot more .45-70 per year than all others combined and I would not part with any of my .45-70 rifles. None of the three you listed are head turners where you say, "Whoa, what have we here?
And really the first 3 in my list fall short of that look too. So I guess that leaves us with the most SEXIEST cartridge I know of, the .44-77 Sharps BN!
