Old Reliable - Gary - passed away Jan 12th

Post by ssdave »

Pasting this in from a post on the ASSRA Board. I am saddened at the loss of my friend.

Gary Geissler, died this morning. He fought a good fight with Stage 4 cancer and tried his best to join us one more time in Montana, but the disease was too advanced. We will deeply miss his friendship, quick humor, and the weird rifles he showed up at the Q with.

As a fellow 50-140 shooter Gary and I got along fine, will allways remember our bull sessions at the Q and on line. Indeed we are diminished. Bobw

My condolences to his family.

Gary/OlReliable was one of the early members here. If I recall correctly, didn't he also post on the old Shooters.com BP site.

Definitely a loss of a great guy. Totally enjoyed him at the Q every year. BS porch sessions were something I looked forward to.

I hope the "regulars" make the Q this year!

Damn, that's all I can say. Gary and I stay in touch and he sent me a text 1/6/21 saying the doctor gave him 6 months . He was hoping so much to make it back to the Q this June one last time. As mentioned above he always seemed to campaign an original rifle at the Q. Original Sharps 74's, Borchardts I think off top of my head. I think I first met him during the 2004 Q when he was shooting a Martini that looked like it had been dragged behind a wagon. As he was going past me with his gun on cart I must have had a look of disgust while looking at that rifle and Gary says "eat your heart out!" I busted out laughing. He was incredibly knowlegible on old guns and I would always look forward for the BS sessions at the Restwel where he held court. I will miss you my friend!

Gary's son, Zach, is hoping to fulfill a wish Gary had to have his ashes scattered at the shooting line at the Q this year. We will see if that's possible. I plan to be there just in case and to see his friends and to shoot again. If it happens, all of you are invited.

Very sorry to hear this. I first met him in 2002 when he was shooting a Belgian Comblain with the forearm held on with a dry rawhide wrap. We kept in contact over the years, one of the good guys.
