My world this morning!
I woke up this morning to two inches of fresh snow, calm winds and warm temperatures. While not idea shooting conditions it made for a beautiful walk for my dog and I. You just have to play the cards you're dealt.

I'm getting kind of tired of the white stuff myself! Had a foot and a half now about three since December!

Re: My world this morning!
Mike,
That sounds about like what we had last year (and the year before)! This year has been gentle with us, we have about 14" on the ground with the 2" of fresh stuff overnight. When it gets to be about 20" deep getting around in the woods is very limited! I like snow until it limits my walks and 20" will do that. I try my best to keep at least some of my trails in the wood suitable for walking on, but snow can get overwhelming rather quickly. As I am sure you know all to well.

Whats 2" of snow to stop going shooting. I've been shooting all winter in 6 to 8 inches of the darn stuff. Cuts down on the time out shooting, but makes the grass grow so there will be hay for the horses.

Re: My world this morning!
George,
I guess I wasn't clear, it was 2" of FRESH snow on top of what we already had making about 14" on the ground. That 14" is a lot less than the 30" we had last year about this time. Really it's been the subzero temperatures that have kept me off my range the past couple of weeks. This morning it was more the haze from the recent warmup that would have made shooting a challenge.
This being a shooting forum I felt it was best to mention shooting at least! It was the quite morning in the woods that was my main point.

Re: My world this morning!
We been getting pounded harder than normal this year. The snow on the country roads is pilled up higher then the roof of the truck and a lot of spots it's about 1 1/2 lane. last night we got some rain that settled the snow in the yard but it's getting up in the 30's. Time to start taping the Maples for a new supply of syrup and maple sugar.

We endeavor to persevere.
Remembering the wisdom of the government. Was on the equator on the coast of Brazil in January (their summer) and they sent me to the Coast of Maine on the Bay of Fundy to work in a open skiff.
Conditioned me to favor the warmer climes. Reminded me of a Service Poem about the Cremation of Sam Magee.

Re: My world this morning!
Another day and even more beautiful than the last! Two more inches of snow overnight and four more forecast for tonight. This morning it's a balmy 34 degrees with warm sunshine and some gusty winds. We had a great walk in the woods. I have work to do today to keep my trails open. I don't want to get too far behind on that! By this time tomorrow the trails will have 8 inches of new snow over the last three days, wet heavy snow. It can get difficult to deal with at that point. In this part of the world "snow removal" is an official winter sport! And we all play!
Wish you were here, DD!
