To Woody & John Bly - Trapdoor question

vbull very nice looking gun! It's interesting that you have one of the 5 groove TD's as a complete gun as there is no record of Springfield actually building them. There is a mention in Joe Poyer's book of a number of 5 grove barrels having been made and proof tested but no mention of any having been assembled and out the door the speculation is they were surplussed off maybe to Bannermans? There was a 5 groove with receiver and all the proof and other barrel marks listed on E-Bay last year but Dick Hosmer thought it wasn't genuine because of no history.

Weren't Peabody barrels of five grooves and very similar in contour to Trapdoor barrel's?
