NEW Acquisition
Not a Sharps, but a "Buffalo" caliber just the same. Obviously not used on the Herds extensively (if at all).
I just took delivery of this Remington #1 in 50/70. I have been studying Marcot's Rolling Block book for the last two days.
28-1/2" heavy barrel marked 50 CTG 'E (I see several Rifles with odd barrel lengths pictured and described in Marcot's book).
Top Tang Markings:
REMINGTONS ILION N.Y.U.S.A.
PAT. MAY 30 NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1868
All matching numbers 10XX.
Correct "Sliding Bar" extractor.
Correct Rounded breech block (used after 1870).
Checkered "Shield" hammer and breechblock lever.
Rounded hammer and breechblock pin heads (RH side).
Correct "Factory" sling-swivels front and back.
Factory "Rough and Ready" barrel sight, stationary barrel sight and special order front blade sight.
Single-set trigger.
Configured about like Custer's missing Remington Sporter, except for the sights and sling swivels............BUT, WOULD IF..................

Great looking rifle! Now I want one. Congratulations. Please relay how it shoots.

Re: NEW Acquisition
I love that rifle and caliber. I'm going to make one for my self one of these days. Those faded case colors on the action are the best looking I have ever seen, far better than when they are new, bright and gaudy! I purposely knock my case colors down with glass beading the surface of the action before pack case hardening it.

Re: NEW Acquisition
I've read the Remington factory single set trigger is not of the best design as they frequently need adjustment but the rest of the rifle is very well designed and fabricated. I think the Dehaas book was where I read of the single set Remington trigger.

Re: NEW Acquisition
Congratulations ! That is one very tidy looking rifle and a great find. Love that cartridge too. Slow and steady
but really delivers the goods. Be interested to hear how it performs.
