Re: Gemmer Trapdoor
Yes Tom, I used a Springfield lock and trigger. If you look at the picture of my stock pattern on page 1 it is cut for the Springfield lock. The pattern is made to be flexible in the final product. It can be made into a what is considered a traditional Gemmer or just a trapdoor sporter. There is no trigger inlet nor cleaning rod hole drilled. It is cut for a shotgun style buttplate but a rifle style plate can be easily fit. The rifle I finished up had an ebony forend tip and no cleaning rod so it was a trapdoor sporter. The owner is quite pleased with it.

John,
That’s a good idea! That way it’s more versatile!...

mdeland,
This is the tang modification I was talking about. I did almost all of the machining with the tang mounted in the action.

John, does the front of your tang sight mount have an under tab with a hole to utilize the Springfield tang screw ?

Yes Mike, it goes under the tang and has a hole. The tang screw holds it in place as well as a little Acraglas for a perfect fit.
