Fake names/profiles on facebook

Post by Glen Ring »

I am a member of several Facebook closed groups and Jeanne and I have a shooting facebook group page.
There seems to be a LOT of fake profiles of folks using fake names in order to gain access.
Most of us have a facebook page for personal or business communications and advertising .

I was wondering if any of you are or have experienced fake folks trying to gain access to your page.

I don't and never will have a face book page. The internet suffices nicely and I Will not support Zuckerberg.

Me neither! Our daughter, who uses facebook, sent us a utube interview with the guy who developed facebook. He sold it to Google and finally figured out that he created a monster. Interesting utube if you can find it.

facebook is a real gift for modern law enforcement. Linking folks is SO easy, and finding folks from your past is helpful. I just don't understand the motivation of people that use fake names.

It is fun to have a Friend request sent by an obvious scammer. Just like the telephone scammers, it's fun to expose them.

Not to be critical, but darn near everyone on this reflector uses a "fake" name too. What's the difference between a fake name and an alius?

Alias
When a fake profile is set up with fake information and the intent is to gain access. Forum use with a moniker is common on many forums covering many topics.
If I received a request to join my group or a friend request from someone with an obvious fake profile then that of course makes one wonder about intent.

I like to be straight up; lots of people (especially in government) cover their real self with a facade, lots of people rationalize deceit, lots of people are actors - the net is the perfect format for them. For this simple guy, I just want my LRE to arrive; then all will be right with the planet (except finding reloading components)!

Only trouble I have had was on the 22 BPCRA Facebook page, which is mine and I built at John’s request several years ago for the association. Which I happily moderate and run.

The phony profile was a Glen Ring, I knew this couldn’t be so I immediately informed Jennie of it, and promptly blocked that shit stirring individual trying to join the page, and permanently banned him from the page. Life is too short to deal with such individuals.

Life is good, tomorrow we test dual diameter bullets.

From time to time I get suspect accounts trying to join my Long Range Black Powder Rifle or Whitworth Rifle groups, but they don’t get past the membership questions. Lots of good shooting related groups on Facebook for sharing knowledge and experience, or asking questions, whether it’s Sharps rifles, antique arms, general interest or a specialised interest.

how soon we forget.
fake names have been an old west tradition for 200 years.
they called them 'travelling names'.
Pecos Bill, Billy the Kid, John the Molester...(Ok I made that one up)

and...we all use our Cowboy shooting names.......

have a good day.
'The Drummer'.......

ps. I do not use Facebook for all the above reasons too.....
