plastic vs steel butt plate stock size?

Post by bohemianway »

Gents,

Shilohs first

1) Is there a difference in the stock profiles between the plastic and the steel shotgun butt stocks?
I have a saddle rifle and it seems more petite than my original steel plated shotgun butt. My desire is to put a cresent or swiss or Schoyen style plate on a current model Shiloh and am wondering if fitting one of those to a plastic shotgun butt PG is reasonable?
2) Is there a difference in the stock profile between the straight and the Pistol grip Shiloh shotgun butts?

3) I see three PG cap styles a) flat, b) convex (rounded), c) schnabble (optional) on Shiloh rifles. How does one ensure getting the "" style?

4) C. Sharps has a Hartford and a heavy Hartford butt stock listed what's up with that? I asked the gal on the phone but got nowhere.

Originals:
1) Is the Schuetzen model the only one that actually had a cheek rest?

2) I have two different originals with straight grip shotgun butts. One is a good match to the current steel size and the second is a good 1/4" deeper than that?

Thank you,
Charles

Charles, wouldn't this be better in the Support section so that Kirk could answer your questions without a bunch of 'I think' answers?

Charles,

There is a difference between the Shiloh Shotgun and the Shiloh Crescent butt plates. The Steel shotgun is 1.486" wide and the crescent is 1.200" wide and I also have an old Farmer Shiloh that has a plastic butt plate that is 1.725" wide.
I know nothing about the rest of the buttplates you mentioned.

And I know nothing about the C sharp. I walked in their store 6 times and drove down the street shaking my head and ordered 6 Shiloh's there :D

The C Sharps Heavy Hartford butt stock has a higher comb for long range shooting. The butt plate is higher and much wider than that for the Hartford style. I have this stock on my 45-90'
