40-70 Sharps Straight
Can a 40-70 Sharps Straight be re-chambered to a 40-82 Crossno, without setting the barrel back?

Re: 40-70 Sharps Straight
I would say maybe to that question. The 40-82 uses the 45-90 brass [2.4"] and the base is larger that the 40-70 brass.
The only question is what to do with the extra 0.10" length in the neck area of the 40-70 [2.5" brass].
What do you hope to gain by changing to the 40-82?
Keep on hav'n fun!

I did it with a 4065 reamer. Couldn't find a 40 82 shiloh to rent. It worked out fine, the 45 90 brass is short but I have shot it alot with our problems. The front of the chamber is just long throat.
