I haven't found anything that works better than a mix of SST pins and ceramic with one pill of Cascade dish washer soap and just a pinch of Lemishine.
This even works best if you save the muddy water strained through a classifier with small enough screen that will hold the pins and when that 5 gallon bucket gets full let the muddy water settle and drain off the clear and throw the mud away.
I don't do this for the economy I do it because I get results that you see below. :D
I put the settled mix in gallon milk bottles for use while the new muddy water clears up and reused.

One of those is really to much that's why I save the drained mix and it works best recycled. One will make a lot of suds but that helps cushion the cases and I don't get the meaning some say they get.
I even use a Frankford Arsenal tumbler that has a large hard barrel and it spins faster than the two tumbler tumblers I wore out. :D

The recycled mix when it settles is clear and blue color. I use it straight or even mix it 50/50 with water and that is just fine doing that.

Kurt,

Any idea how many ounces or amount of ceramic and pin media, per batch or cycle, weight of each?

I am ordering some ceramic from BACO and suspect I have been using too many pins per batch.

Thanks!

Sorry Tom just seen this post.

Tom I use a Frankford Arsenal tumbler. It has a larger barrel than the Tumblers Tumbler I can clean 150 plus cases per load if I want.

I just weight the media and it's 5 1/2 pounds in the barrel. That is a mix of ceramics and pins. I think I used a 1/2 bad of the 2# of pins in it. Not sure anymore.

If you use a mix you can always use one of these magnets to separate the pins from the ceramics.

Also I have a screen that fits a 5 gallon bucket that has a 1/50 or 1/70 mesh, not sure anymore what is it, that will hold the pins from falling through so I don't loose any.
I been using this same stuff past 15 years ??? and it still does a fine job.

Kurt: many thanks for those two links. Just ordered the screen and the magnet as utilizing a Nylon paint strainer does not work very well to separate the pins and the brass. Again, thanks. Cheers, rcN

Matt,

I'm not sure if I got it from Shiloh or Dave Maurer back in the early 20's maybe 05 or 06 and I'm still using the same stuff.
