It's been a tradition of mine to make a new knife when I get a new hunting Sharps. Hope it looks ok. I forged it out of O-1 tool steel, 8" blade, Sambar handle. The Shiloh is a Hartford in 50-70, 28" polished #1 bbl, 1-36 twist. Since I hunt on horse back, all my hunting Sharps get a saddle ring to tie them down. It also has the patch box. Pack hardened finish, fire blued, straight grain wood, no finish. This will be my dedicated bear gun.

If you don't kill the bear with the Sharps, you should be able to kill him with that knife.
Very nice job making that blade, and a great looking Shiloh.
Good luck on your hunt.
Thanks' for the kind remarks. I don't skin or dress game with such a big blade (I would cut off one of my own fingers) This is just a good ol' camp knife. The real star is the Shiloh. I ordered it through Goodman last October and received it in August. I've taken it on 3 hunts so far and it is a bone collector. Packs good on the horse and shoulders fast.
The round that I wound up using is the RCBS 50-515. Drops from the mould at 546 gr. Loaded with 60 gr. of 2fg. I initially intended on using the Lyman 515141 at 450 gr. but it drops from my mould at .513" and with Shiloh's tight chamber, I was having to thumb my rounds in which was a problem for me, I like to have them just fall in when I'm hunting. Might have to set my 45-70 aside for Lion and try this one out.

Finally, someone who knows how to make a proper looking knife blade. That is a working blade. Great job Dennis and good looking rifle also. Congrats. Dave

Perfection on both the rifle and knife. Thanks for sharing. My uncle used to make knives from stone they where works of art also. Wish I had purchased one from him while he was alive. He was interested in how the various Indian tribes made bows, arrowheads and tools. Was a Colorado state trapper and spend many a lonely winter banging rocks together.. CWO
