45 Basic Brass

Post by Chickm1 »

Other than Buffalo Arms and Track of the Wolf, who might carry 45 Basic brass?

Thanks!

I learned some more. Initially, I thought 45 Basic was full length brass (3 1/4"), that you just cut to your desired length. Then, I was told 45 Basic was 2.9" long, and the correct brass for the 45-110. Apparently, not so. I found 3 different brass listed as 45 Basic, and is also listed as being 3 1/4" long. The brands are RCBS, Taylor Nonte, and brass marked C Christian Arms.
Isn't life fun?

There is also "Norma", the best. It is/was offered in both lengths of 3-1/4" (marked .45-120) and 2.9.

Yeah, I bought a pile of it marked 45-120, out of my own ignorance. Then I found out if I cut it to 2 7/8", the case wall will be too thick to accept a greaser, and I am not ready to start paper patching

You could cut off that 45-120 brass, and then outside neck turn to bring down the wall thickness
so you could use it for the GGs.
Additionally, Neck turning is Great for making the neck thicknesses very concentric.
OTOH, go to bore diameter PP bullets

Norma 45 -120 basic is 3&1/4
Norma basic is 2.9
The rcbs is 3&1/4
Dont know about the other.
I have some 45-120 norma cut down and it works in my standard chamber rifle. Also have older rcbs the only needed cutting down to fit.
Normas 2.9 is the easiest to deal with. Just full length size and trim a small bit to fit your chamber.
