Did I hear someone comment that the shooter frequently is the limiting factor?

Or is that just a vicious rumor?

Nice target though.

Range 2021-1.jpg
Postal 2021-1.jpg

FOR DAG45-70

I started off with the five shots in the X ring and then the wind started to pick up from the left as you can see. So I started to crank in some windage to compensate for the left to right wind and was bringing my shots back in and wouldn't you know it the wind stopped on the last shot. It went left where the rifle was pointed because of the windage I had put in. Well, that's the way it goes.

Sun was out with some clouds. Temp was 24 degrees left to right 10 mph wind coming up the river. Rifle is a Shiloh Sharps LRE in .45-70. MVA tang and globe sights. 200 yards. Load is 535 grain BACO creedmoor bullet. 66 grains of Swiss 1 1/2 F. Federal GM210M large rifle primer. .030 vegie wad. 1:20 lead alloy. String score: 15.0840

Obviously it's the limiting factor here.

SINCE WE HAD SUCH A LOW TURNOUT, INSTEAD OF STARTING A NEW ONE, WE WILL JUST CONTINUE THIS ONE TIL THE END OF FEBRUARY.

Covid, howling winds and subzero temps just took too big a chunk out of my schedule.

With the mild weather we have been having here, I have been shooting every chance I get. I have been trying to work up a load for my new Shiloh, but it's been elusive. Tried yesterday, and ended up with a 2.5 moa group just when I thought I was closing in. Today, it should be mild in temp and wind again. If I don't have it by Saturday, I'm done for a couple of weeks. Scheduled for hand surgery on Monday for "trigger finger", on two fingers of my left hand, and I'm left handed.

"howling winds and subzero temps" vs low humidity and high temps.

Oh, the agony ! When will it end ?

That date extension is good news!

With upcoming high temps predicted to be either positive or negative single digits, I just don’t go out to shoot in those conditions.

I have some targets ready to go. It will be (5) round groups at 200-meters (iron sights) with varying powder charges. Hopefully one of the groups will be decent and will get posted.

Today wasn't too bad. I shortened the OAL by .025 inch. The 5 inch group of yesterday went to 3 inches for 10 shots today. Hmmmm. I only shot two sighters so my group was not centered and will score about 15 inches, but I am encouraged. Out of time, so will have to wait until my hand heals for further testing.

And the irony is that there is very little participation from the south country. What do they do with all their time.

Work up loads, practice long range, shoot matches, shoot 22 silhouette. Just like in the summer. And repeat…. :D

YES, you see, you have to live here to understand.

'Work up loads, practice long range, shoot matches, shoot 22 silhouette. Just like in the summer. And repeat…. :D '

AND, hopefully, Tom just expanded your understanding.

What he didn't tell you was that then we lie in wait for you to thaw out and venture out to the range so we can increase your learning curve. It is all benevolence by the way.

I was glad to see the extension as well. I'm sure hoping to be able and shoot a target good enough to post. It was a beautiful fall here in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming but with harvest, fall field work and setting up a new operation after moving here one year ago from Colorado, well life has been more than busy. Moving an entire farming operation, building a shop and storage building, two grain bins and a house plus farming the land leaves little room for anything else. I'm going to try and get back to shooting soon. It will be a few months yet until our house is done and I can get the reloading room set up. I have some ammo loaded for the 45 70 but probably not enough to go to the Q with some pards I shoot cowboy action with. We'll have to see about that. I have very little loaded for the 45 110. If not another year to practice might be the best idea anyway. Shoot straight and I hope yo see ya down the trail.

Woody I am left handed also so how is it shooting your trapdoor as a lefty? Haven't got to the range at my new location yet they have a 200 yard rage so after first will get to it for this shoot finally.
