MVA Front Sight Inserts

Post by Castaway »

I know I adjust the front ring insert based on distance to the bull and or light conditions. I also have a good idea of what post I’d use based on target size and distance. Could someone explain under what conditions I’d use the horizontal and vertical double wire insert or the similar solid rectangles that almost converge from north to south and east to west?

I like that "open crosshair" of solid rectangles for hunting. It gives me a better view of my aim point than a post does. I don't shoot matches, so hunting is the primary purpose for my Shiloh, therefore I keep that insert in the front sight all the time. I suppose the double wire one could work similarly for someone with great eyesight, but for my eyes I prefer the heavier solid rectangles.
