Posting this picture so people can see if the "A" scope is aesthetically acceptable to them. This is the 34" Hvy Oct. and a shout to to Jim as his Sporting tang is also shown. It is another off the shelf Shiloh. It seems like every time the company gives me a decent bonus it is under a week that Shiloh puts exactly what I want on their website. I have to also say that the 34" military style Hartford was what I had desired years before that movie came out since I was a target shooter who has a thing for that patchboxed look and 34" was the standard long range length. So although it is now cliché it was my own configuration preference prior to.

What is the spacing on the scope mounts? Have you shot that setup at 1000 yards without the muzzle obstructing your view of the target? I am planning on putting a scope on my Creedmoor rifle which has a 34" heavy octagon barrel and I need to find out what height I need to have the scope at so when I'm sighted at 1000 yards I'm not looking through the muzzle of the rifle. I am hoping to stay with 7.2" spacing.

I D&T to the 10.34 inch spacing so as to not cover up the Shiloh markings. Unfortunately I have not fired it since mounting the scope and our range only gets to 400 meters. So I most likely will not have an answer for you unless by some stroke of luck I get a chance to get to the Harris MN range.

Charles, If you want to test your scope setup, then come to Harris on Friday the 19th of August.
After we setup the targets, we will be practicing at 1K.

Do you want me to bring my .44-77 with the A scope on it so you can look through it? It has the MVA mounts on a 7.2 spacing.

My old set up on my 34 inch LRE is the 23 inch MVA with the 10.3 spacing. 3 tick marks per MOA.

Thank you. I'm not sure yet what I will end up with yet, but here is my current thinking.

For the past 4 or 5 years I have been using a Leatherwood 17" scope in DZ mounts on a 7.2 spacing. While the scope isn't anything special the mounts are great IMHO.

At 7.2" it's 2 lines per MOA, each line = 1/2 MOA. These mounts read/work just like a micrometer, a precision measuring instrument that I am very familiar with.

My math skills can and do let me down regularly, but 2 lines equalling 1 MOA is something I have a chance of getting right when calculating in my head and the clock is running. So the DZ mounts on a 7.2" spacing would be something I could hit the ground running with.

I just need to find out what height the blocks need to be for it to work out on a 34" barrel. The blocks I have on my 30" Shiloh work, but I have pretty much the same blocks on my 34" rifle and that does not work past 800 yards because the scope is looking through the front sight and/or muzzle.

On my 30" I'm good from something less than 200 yards to a comfortable amount over 1000 yards without changing anything but the sight setting. Nothing blocks my view.

I have been told that with a 3/4" rear block and a 5/8" front block it will work on my 34" rifle. That is what I will try first.

The only thing I need to do is look at some scopes and see what looks good to me. Then make sure the scope will work or can be made to work in DZ mounts. I will be looking at scopes tomorrow at Wisconsin Rapids and again in two weeks at Lodi. Hopefully I will get an idea for what scope to order.

I use a front block .150" shorter than the rear block. That gives me settings from 100 yards past 1000. I'm not sure right now with out pulling the scope but I use .500" rear .350 front on the A-!0 on the .44-77 Farmer
