Steve and discussed what or which match we wanted to attend in Raton this year. We are coming for the .22/big bore and I'm sorry to say, not staying for the this match. This will be the first Nationals since 1999 that I will miss. I don't like it, but the .22/big bore is more bang for my travel buck.

Ribs at Alma this summer, Ian? I'll certainly 'chip in' for a (large) portion.

Not sure, yet, about the Nat'ls. May work well for me to head west from the MI regional, as well. A swing thru KS, CO & TX to visit family is due.

Maybe. We will see. The way things are shaping up I will have a skirmish the weekend before the Nationals. What I will probably do is go to that shoot then from there drive out to NM on the Sunday prior to the shoot and plan on arriving in Raton on Monday evening which would give me Tuesday to get some practice in before the big dance.

That being said I will be living out of my camper for 10 or 11 days straight and packing 7 or 8 firearms with all the ammunition needed for them. If I have a copilot then we can add to that so space will be at a premium

Like Woody, I'm in for getting the biggest bang for my buck. The only way I'd go with the National match is if they added a BPTR midrange competition to that week. The 22 BPCRA match and the International big bore matches were tough to beat last year.

When I saw ribs for some reason I thought you were talking about doing them at the nationals. I see now that you meant ribs at Alma. I might be able to get something put together. I can put a few racks in my kettle grill and use it like a smoker. I don’t think. Would be able to make enough to feed everyone but I could feed several.

I was surprised to see BPCRS Nationals dates’ separate from the 22 Nat./BPCRS Shootout by nine days. On the surface this appears to be a gross oversight, maybe lack of planning, or worse something else is going on. I could be wrong but for those of us who remember BPCR “Extravaganza” week, I think this is likely a disappointment. At the least I would say it’s a missed opportunity, especially for those that travel some distance. No one asked for my opinion, however being a Life Member of the NRA, I think I’m entitled to comment. L. Baker Jr.

Larry Baker Jr., you and I have never met but I've been around here a while. SPG is about as good as it gets but then I have to use some DGL too because I count Johnny and Amber as friends.

Anyway, "or worse something else is going on". Let me share what I know. In 2018 the Nationals in Raton came off pretty much without a hitch. Then in 2019 just as everybody was gearing up to head to Raton, without notice or explanation the NRA pulled the plug on the match. In 2016 they moved it to Ridgway, PA and about 51 shooters shot the match. Back to Raton for 2017 and '18. I fear that unless they reach a certain number of shooters (Only the NRA know that number) they will once again cancel this match along about March or April like they did the last time leaving the shooters with no place to go. Except:
There is a fine two day Big Bore BPCR match following the .22BPCR Nationals hosted by Kenny Tebbe. That's another story.

We will meet one day.

Paul, respectfully, a few of your facts are not correct, or may be conflated.

In 2019, BPCR was held in Raton. You are probably thinking of BPTR, which was cancelled for lack of participation.

All years up to 2020, BPCR was held in Raton. In 2020, it was sent to PA but was subsequently cancelled due to COVID. 2021, the matches were held in PA and I believe the number 51 that you quoted for 2016 was the number in 2021.

BPCR is scheduled for 2022 in Raton.
