Are there any shoots in the Wisconsin/Illinois/Minnesota area?

There are long range target matches in Lodi, WI out to 1000 yds. You'll need to go to MI or IL for BPCR silhouette. There are monthly silhouette matches near Alma MI in the warm months and at Effingham, IL also. It's a long hard ride to Friendship, IN, but some folks do it for silhouette. I don't know of much else in your part of the country.

Kevin, the short answer is yes.

As John mentioned, there are long range matches at Lodi Wisconsin twice per summer. (typically May and September).

There is at least one long range match at Harris Minnesota and some other shooting opportunities that I know less about.

There is some shooting on the west coast of Wisconsin near Eu Claire was well, which I know less about.

There is silhouette in southern Illinois, which I have not tried.

If you hop around the lake to Michigan there is silhouette at Alma, MI and some midrange near Grayling, though I'm not certain what the status of that match is currently.

It won't be too much longer before match dates get set and we see directors posting notices about them here.

I usually keep a Google Calendar of matches that I make available to anyone that is interested. I'll be putting that together once the dates start rolling in. Right now, the various clubs are negotiating their schedules.

When they finalize the dates at Lodi I will post them, in years past the spring shoot was mothers day weekend. There was talk of changing that as to get more shooters, not sure if it will happen though.

I believe all BPCR shooting at Grayling is shut down due to lack of a sufficient number of shooters to keep it going.

There are a few mid-range matches held at Cadillac, MI throughout the summer. And as mentioned the monthly silhouette matches at Alma. MI April thru September. The Michigan shooters are as friendly a group of people as you could meet, they have treated very well for many years. They run their matches very well and are firm but gentle on those who have a hard time following the rules. Don't ask how I know!

The same can be said for the cheeseheads in Wisconsin. If you show up at Lodi and you're there for more than 5 minutes and someone hasn't offered you a beer it would be the first time it's ever happened. Just be sure to bring some beer of your own to offer around and you'll have friends for life. We are a thirsty bunch up here!

The Minnesota crowd at Harris is a good bunch as well. I am not as familiar with their customs and traditions as I should be. I do know they like to serve up more good food than a man can eat! And I do remember, dimly, some beer.

All of these places eagerly welcome new shooters and run well organized, fun and safe matches. They are helpful and friendly to a man, from the top shooters on down. They will treat you right! Come join in the fun.

I should have also mentioned the mid-range matches at Wisconsin Rapids, WI. There are usually 2 to 3 match a year, some paper and some gong out to 600 yards. It's a very nice range and very relaxed matches. If you are top shooter you get the personal satisfaction of knowing you out shot the others.
Very good matches to test loads and other equipment, which is mostly what I do there. Small group but just as friendly as any. Need info on any of these just ask.

The Harris, MN range is about 45-minutes north of the Twin Cities. It is the Gopher Rifle and Revolver Club.

There are (2) Scheutzen matches, usually in June and August.

They have gong shoots but I don’t have the details.

In Hibbing, MN, at the Hibbing Rifle and Pistol Club there are monthly BPCR fun matches. Modified silhouette arrangement.

Minnetonka Game and Fish club, near Nowthen and St. Francis, there are IHMSA handgun silhouette matches.

The CBA (Cast Bullet Assn.) has benchrest matches in Minnesota at Minnetonka, Oakdale Gun Club, Bald Eagle Sportsmens and Blues Hills Sportsman’s near Rice Lake, WI.

The Harris Long Range matches for 2021 will be as follows. May 14,15,16 and August 20,21,22. The first day is a set up and practice day. Then there are two days of 30 shots per day for record. All fired at 1000 yards. These are very enjoyable matches. Harris is a very nice range. Dave Newell and Mike Thiesen run these matches. Merry Christmas Raymond Hanson

Thank you for posting that Ray.

It seems like the Harris shoots are a secret :D you don't often hear about them.

When you go to their website, there is a fairly detailed event calendar.

Might be too early to see any 2021 match dates.

Tom,
I just first learned last year there were matches at Harris and I made one in the fall. Nice range and it was a fun shoot.
This season I passed it by because I was in close contact with a person that had the Chinese bug and I didn't want to take a chance maybe exposing others at a match so I passed it up.
