Black Powder Sihlouette VS NRA Black Powder Sihlouette

Post by High Desert Hunter »

Is there any difference in the rules? Reason I ask, is I know that my rifle won't make NRA weight, she's over 13#. I am inching closer to dipping my toes, but I cannot afford another rifle that would make weight, and I am just not ready to try a scope.

Hi Dave, Short answer, it matters. That's what rules are for to keep everybody on the same page. If it's an NRA match there should be no exception to the 12 lb. 2 oz. rule. If it's non-NRA then it would be up to the match director to make the exception but once that line is crossed where does he stop? Best way to say it is, 'it doesn't matter until it matters.' Suppose he lets you shoot and you are the only one over the legal weight and you win, I'll bet you the #2 shooter would have something to say about it. At 13# plus I think what you gain on the prone you'd give away on the off-hand but that's just me and it's been a long time since I've been #2. :( :( Now if you just want to shoot for fun and eliminate yourself from the competition and awards then that's a different story and once again it's between you and the MD.

I believe the rules under the fledgling Rocky Mountain sillhoutte association got rid of the weight limit, and are allowing borchardts and other rifles into the fray.

Isn't that a breath of fresh air Don? Now tell me they've eliminated the 3" spike limit on the cross-sticks and you'll have made my day.

Thanks for that Don, I was just coming up with the FB page and having chosen not to subject myself to Mr. Zuckerberg's arrogance I was unable to peruse the page. :P :P

Thank you for all of the replies. As winning would not be a concern, but having fun would be, I will have to see about contacting some match directors and go from there. Thanks for the link!
