Barrel Length

Post by GhostRider »

Kirk,

Just wanting to ask, for my own information and satisfaction, what I would be losing in the way of velocity from a 34" down to a 30" barrel. I like long barrels, I think it was something my dad ingrained in me, and I would like to know just how fine the hairsplitting is in 4" of barrel.

Thanks,
Matt Seymore

I have never actually tested this myself, but I have had individuals tell me it is minimal if not un-noticeable difference. Thanks Kirk

I have a copy of the new sharps reloading manual put out by the guy across the streetand it lists for;
45-100/500 1360 on 30 and 1371 on34 pp bullet

45-90/500 1226/30 and 1240 /34 ''

45-70/500 1102/30and 1118 /34 ''

it is interesting to note that some loads with light bullets actually are slower with the longer barrel or the same;

45-110 lyman 457406 110 fg 1366/30 1366/34

45-110 lyman 457193 fg 110gn 1472/30 and1447/34

if this is hazy e-mail me and maybe I can be more confusing.
