saving the fore end

Kirk, I am wanting to rebarrel an older shiloh and was talking to the girl up front and she said that the old fore end wouldnt work
what I want to do is to put a heavy octagon on a action that has a standard octagon barrel on it why couldnt you just open up the fore end and reuse it? if I put a hartford barrel on it would it be different priced than the std. heavy barrel? the fore end does not have a pewter tip.dont know if that makes a difference. thanks for your time ........Dean

Hi Dean, The standard forend won't have enough material to channel out, and if it did, it would cost more money to set it up and try to mill an inside octagon than to just put a new forend on. The hartford collar will be extra on the rebarrel also. Thanks Kirk

Go with the Hartford collar! The little bit of extra is just that, a little bit, and the collar just looks so great.
