Farmingdale Question

Post by sherbs »

On a 30" Oct barrel Farmingdale Rifle, under # 5000 would the barrel have been made outside of Shiloh? If it was, any ideas on the barrel maker?

sherbs,

I don't know about the serial # range, but it is my understanding that the Farmingdales carried Navy Arms made barrels and some had barrels made by Sharron.

If the rifle has a Navy Arms Barrel, would it be an Italian made one?

sherbs,

Tap it with a brass rod - if the ring sounds like "Iti-wang" then it is Italian made.

Just kidding - I have no idea how to tell! You may want to contact Shiloh or maybe MLV would know.

I believe Wolf made his own barrels on a surplus WWII barrel machine and that it remains (in some form) with Shiloh today. Obviously, Kirk would know.
If you live in a country where you can be arrested for fishing without a license, but not for entering that country illegally....then it's safe to say that country is run by IDIOTS!

By the time that serial number was made, Wolf was making his own barrels. As far as I could ever figure out it was only the first few years
that he used different barrels, that's about all I can tell ya.

So based on your knowledge a .54 caliber 1863 serial # barely over 1000 would possibly be first couple of years mfg. date & outside contract barrel?
