Can these barrels be fitted to Shiloh 1863s?

Post by Naphtali »

Can barrels with squared thread [section] having pitch of .010 inch (2.5 mm) and an outside diameter of 1.14 inches (28.75 mm) be fitted to Shiloh 1863 actions?

Since reading Bill Goodman's article in Black Powder Cartridge News about cap lock [original] Sharps "buffalo" rifles, I have wondered about the .577-caliber Sharps cap lock carbines used by a few units of the [British] Indian Army and also units in Egypt.

1. Has Shiloh ever made a run of .577-caliber 1863s or, for that matter, any special order of one?

2. If the answer is they have not, when 1863s return to production, any possibility for doing so?

3. Since this bore size was OEM Sharps, albeit for limited production, any possibility of Shiloh rebarreling a "B" series 1863 to .577-caliber in the next few months?

HI,
We have never made a 577 barrel. Yes you could put one on if the threads are cut right. At this point I don't plan on offering this caliber.
