Re: Rechamber .40-50 BN
Now you are really thinking. Form up 50 new rds of brass for the 40-50 SBN and wear them out, I bet you won't even think about rechambering it then. A guy needs a Shiloh in something like 40-50 SBN just for relaxed shooting inexpensively at targets. When they get that rd barrel run going I'm goint to order mine. bobw

Re: Rechamber .40-50 BN
I have an origianl 74 in 40 90 BN. gun is in perfect condition, so no problems there.
even had the chamber re done by a gunsmith in NY 20 years ago.
the 40 90 BN has a habit of sticking in the chamber. tough to get out.
you have to really push the lever, but it will eject.
Sellers said the 40 90 had this problem.
NOW. it is a very accurate hard hitting gun.
I would not hesitate doing the 40 90 and not the 40 70 because you can always use cream of wheat and load the 90 down
to the 70 or 60 level. I do that with my original 50 70 carbine. 50 grains, cream of wheat filler, and a 450 and it hits
2 inches or LESS....most times at 50 yds.
luck...Ken

Shooting grease groove bullets in a sharps is new technology and just a passing fad.

Shiloh Saddle rifle, 26" bbl, 1x18 twist, trimmed & formed Starline 45-2.6 brass, 370 gr. Paper Patch bullet(KAL Mold), 90gr. OE 1 1/2 Fg (GOEX EXPRESS Fg used till it ran out). Winchester LR primer. 12 to 18 shots fired in 2 & 3 shot "groups" on separate days =
Vel. = 1439, Ext Sprd. = 26.2, SD = 12.0, AD = 9.9. I have never had any problem with fired brass "sticking". Brass ejects with same ease as from #3 50 2 1/2 & #1 50 Govt ( also KAL paper patch bullets).

Re: Rechamber .40-50 BN
I have an original sharps 7 sporting rifle. it letters as a 40 70 sbn. and is so marked, HOWEVER....
the gun is now and always has been, a 40 90.sbn. I had the chamber restored 25 years ago by an expert and he said the gun
has been a 40 90 sbn all it's life.
the side of the bbl has the + plus sign, that sharps put on when they converted a gun to the largest case in the caliber.
the 40 90 sbn in this case. as per Sellers Book.
the gun was sent to Chicago in74, then back to the factory unsold in 79, then sent to S H and G and is listed in their
records BY SERIAL NUMBER.as being sent out west. case lot is even noted.
30 inch oct. set triggers, 40 90 sbn, military butt stock. Bridgeport made. beautiful condition.
so...Sharps rechambered the smaller BN cases, 40 70 , to the larger ones 40 90 sbn. even then, when they sent them
out west where the larger powder charges were wanted for hunting big game.
wish it could talk..WELL..this one almost can
