Gavin.
95 degreesº F Uggg!! to hot for me I almost like my minus 23º C what I have here now I get along with the chilly temp better then the hot your having now.

I like the .44's myself. The .44-100 Rem straight is a very good shooter for long range with the 17 ROT mine has, but it is also parked like Calamity is and those two are getting replaced with the little Missy I shot all fall. I took your lead Brian watching you shoot yours. But I have a problem with little Missy. I have to drop the block and look at the case to see if it went off

Pink Panther

I have the MVA midrange and a few long range Buff Soule. The Midrange will reach the Buff at the Q using the .44-100 as well as the .50-2.5 but this depends on the stock the rifle has. If the tang drops more then the point of aim does also. I would go with the long range Buff Soule. I have no problem with using it any more then the midrange also for me the extra windage sure comes in handy.

J.B. wrote:"consistently" ... " consistent" :?: I keep seeing these words and hearing them quoted...but I'm at a loss  I have the Buffalo Soule and put it to good use a few years back at the Hill....and more than once at the Q.I still havent laid in the pegs and guy ropes to keep me in position though if that wind comes up  I've been using a 44/77 the last few years Brian. It stays Sateside awaiting my return. Saves baggage handlers the challenge of trying to destroy it on its way to and fro  It's about 95F outside at present and probably 75 or so inside.... I'd imagine its a little cooler in your neck of the woods :?:

rgds... Gavin
There will be no need for the "pegs & guy ropes", as I've ordered weather for Bluebirds & butterfly's

Looked at the 44-77 & 44-100. But if I wanted to use that much powder I'd of got a 45-100 & 560 grs of lead

I must admit, when I flew to Nevada to shoot, I was concerned about the "Walking a rifle through the airport", sliding up to the counter & "Would you like loading my rifle on the plane for me" bit. How to get everybody's attention at an airport? Walk thru dragging your Pelican case behind you. Everybody looks, stare, some point

As luck would have it, sat next to a lady who's husband done it regularly, she said no problem, ended up seeing it loaded & unloaded, both ways, not so much as a scratch, they treated it better than all those golf clubs they were loading :D

Aw, hell, J.B., the other morning it was only -32* F, the next morning it had warmed up to -27* F  the last couple of mornings the seat in my pickup was like a concrete bench
BTW,95*, you're an ass for rubbing that in

.. Now Brian I never said I liked it this hot. Not sure how I'd cope with _32*F on a regular basis but this is way too warm for me. Not sure I'd survive at Raton or Phoenix in summer temperatures. I need to get casting but it wont happen until probably March now. Temperatures around 60*F would be more to my liking. :)

rgds.. Gavin.

ps. dont get rid of all the wind...why sometimes it actually blows one of my shots on to a plate

Kurt,

I'm back to shooting mine again, Savannah took my 45-70 away in July up in Canada, if I even look like I'm going to reach for it she starts growling under her breath at me
I get to reload for it, that's as close as I get to it

You just quit checking, they go off
Trying to relearn it again
I marched that 40-65 to second high overall at Big Gun, with a 36, Gamble shot a 37, My youngest, Alissah (14) shot a 35 with her 38-55, 3rd high overall & high lady, 10/10 @ 823, (I think she is able to see what I say now, maybe) & Savannah shot a 34 & 4th high overall & scope champion, 10/10 @ 700, :D was a great day to be dad, sitting in a pasture, shooting with his daughters

Rates up there with the '96 NPRA finals, Valentines weekend, the wife was pregnant with Savannah and my dad was hazing my steers for me, what a weekend

I like that hill. Of all the gong shoots and other matches I shoot I think that this is the most challenging and beautiful range I have shot on.
Now to see if little Missy will like the BIG HILL winds :D

Kurt,

Well now, that depends on who you ask, I like shooting mine, going to get lots of time with it as I believe Alissah is going to campaign it from here on out, she tried it out at the end of the season last year, said it was not a problem, so the shooting/spotting time with it is going to be good relearning, I had a pretty good handle on it at Big Gun, we'll see how it goes.

On the other hand..................If'n you were to ask "SPOT", the report might not be so rosey
Everytime I bring up "The .40's", spot politely smiles...............& shudders

The song does say "Dance, dance, dance"

Kodi loves to go for rides, as I let him, let me rephrase that, I encourage him to BARK at the cows, therefore I am his favorite

Oh, for pity sake, you're as bad as a grandfather who takes the kids for the afternoon and brings them home full of ice cream and candy bouncing off the walls. No one likes a BARKY dog. It's clear you've never been driving down the highway on your way to a match, you drive past a herd of cattle and your dog, ten inches behind your hearing aids, lets go full blast. It hurts.
