Bore size

Kirk,
I recently picked out and took home a very nice #1 Sporter from Shiloh :D :D
Is there a standard production bore size or should I slug the barrel?
I've slugged the barrels on several of my other rifles but I'm not too crazy about pounding a .490 RB down the barrel of my $3K+ rifle.
I got the 1x18 twist rate for my 45-70 Shiloh from this forum.
Currently I'm shooting a .459 20-1 500gr. GG from a Saeco 881 mould.
Thank you,
paulk

I would not worry about slugging the bore. Shiloh keeps pretty consistent tolerances on their barrels. Your bullet diameter is fine and I have shot a 500 grain Government bullet with very good accuracy out to 500 yards. The Saeco 1881 design is very good , but I use the BACO 500 Government with the 3 wide lube grooves. Either bullet will shot nicely. For 600 and longer ranges I use a money style bullet or a Creedmoor design. I use 20/1 on paper or steel but cast softer for hunting. I pan lube and use a .459 Lee push through sizer for my bullets.

Thank you, Eric.
Good to know you've had good luck with it.
I'll stick with it.

Thank you Kirk.
I have some .459's cast as stated previously I'll continue to try and a .460 sizer is on the way for my Saeco mould bullets.
