Chamber question

Post by Steve Holt »

Evidently there is a difference between chambers for grease bullets and paper patch.
This, only from what I’m seeing on these boards and other places. Some say it matters others say it doesn’t.
LRE, 45-120, B2XXX, made between 91 and late 93.
No chamber specs stipulated with the order so I guess a Shiloh standard spec chamber was reamed.
Any opinions on the exact type of chamber and what type of bullet it may (tend) to shoot better.
Haven’t done a chamber cast yet and would like to avoid that if I can.
Reamers wear and set up can vary a little here and there plus the most accurate words of what a rifle/shooter can do is, “tends too” but still just trying to get a fair direction to start, with this gun.
Thanks everybody.

Steve,

You should do a chamber cast it is easy to do!
- Remove forearm and breech block
- Plug barrel with tight fitting wad of cloth about 1" down in front of chamber
- Melt cerro-safe in a small metal cup
- Use a heat gun to warm up barrel & chamber area
- Using a metal funnel pour cerro-safe into the chamber up to the rim recess
- Let it harden up, wait about a minute, use a cleaning rod down the muzzle and pop out the chamber cast
- Clean out your barrel and chamber area reassemble and your done.

Im with cheif beck.......do a cast, and if anything, you can have a custom mold cut to fit that rifle/fired case perfectly!!! its a win-win!!!

Steve Holt,
Your chamber is a standard 45-70 chamber that is stretched out to 3.250 in length to make it a 120. Bore is .450" x .458".
Get a 550+ bullet so that you can seat it down to a 110 load and it will work ok.
