40-65 bullet sizer die for Shiloh rifle?
Guys
As per previous posts I have a Shiloh 77 in 40-65 on the build bench’s as we speak. I’m trying to get my ducks in a row before it arrives. I would like to order a lube sizer die (RCBS) to have it ready to go. I’m using Starline brass, are the bores on Shiloh’s consistent enough that one of you can confirm with certainty what size sister die I should order? .408”, or?
Thanks!
Wade

Call Shiloh ask what size they are is what I would do.

The Shiloh bore will be 400/408. Shoot straight, rdnck.

My less than year old Shiloh 40 70 SS is .400 and .410.
I use a .410 to size my PP bullets .....and doing this may be unnecessary (new topic someday)
just for info. I have two custom molds for the PP . one .393 full length and patch to .395. slips in the bore easily. 415 grain
and a two diameter 360 grain with .393 top and 1/8 inch base diameter of 395. patches tighter and fits with a slight push in the .400 bore.
both work well.
luck..Ken

Mine is older, but if I size over 0.408 I have trouble chambering. Greasers only.

Called Lucinda and she said .408” is the way to go for greasers. So that is what I’ll be getting.

RCBS makes a .408 Shiloh Sharps .40-65 die.
I understand the Shiloh Sharps chamber is a slight bit tighter at the web.
Other shooters have indicated the RCBS Cowboy dies are for .406 bullets.

I'd definitely think of getting a custom expander for your dies from Buffalo Arms. I've been getting excellent results with both 0.408" and 0.409" bullets in my .40-65's. I like an expander that is 0.001" smaller than bullet diameter, but I know that others like a bit more neck tension.

Check chambering after loading. I have found that I need just a touch on the neck in the sizer after loading. Tight chamber!!

Wasn't sure if you shot it out or found a very aggressive cleaning solvent.
But there are no SAAMI specs for a .40-65 so who knows what reamer design was used.
