Experience loading 40-50 Sharps bottleneck?

Post by Jim Patric »

Hello everyone on the list. I'm a new guy. Some of you I already know. Does anyone have any experience shooting a 40-50 Bottleneck? I got my No1 Sporter in this caliber. Like it but initial results were not quite as good as expected.

Jim Patric,
I started shooting my 40-50BN this summer [fire forming cases that is, and not done yet]. But the initial results using a 375 grain Brooks chicken killer bullet [3-grease grooves], and 49 grains of 2Fg Swiss was impressive. Little or no compression, with a .060 poly wad. I have secured some .030 poly wads now, so am going to try 50-51 grains of 2Fg Swiss. But the 49 grs. was chronographed at 1209 fps, and 8 fps extreme spread, I doubt that I can get much better than that. I'm using BA formed WW brass, and neck turned them to allow using the entire length of the neck [Shiloh chambers are sweet].
Keep on hav'n fun!
