tried 3f in 45 70

i went out and tried 3f in 45 70 this am. 66 grains with 400 grain bullet, gave very good results for me with open sights, poor eyesight, and a dark stormy day. 70 grains was about two to three times the group size. would this be me to vary this much for such a small powder amount change or can it be that much? i like 3f very much.. .. dave
