Going back to the original question about using substitute powders.....
The wife and I went out for Chinese food this evening looking at the fortune cookie lo and behold there was the answer, from the people who were responsible for the development of gun powder..."
ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES FOR THAT WHICH IS GENUINE"

This one is simple...There is no substitute for BP!!

I was of the belief that the "substitutes" would make shooting more conveinient and there wouldnt be as much preparation, brass cleaning, and what have you.
Well forget that.

Go to your BP supplier and get yourself a pound of the real deal
(Swiss 1.5F is my Favorite)and just take the plunge.
I haven't shot a smokeless round through my Shiloh in 3 years.

Just do it!!!!

My Shiloh will never shoot anything except the real powder, Black!! These BPC rifles are so easy to clean I can't even imagine shooting anything else. My muzzleloader has never shot anything else but real blackpowder and the barrel is just as clean as any smokieless powder barrel.
