Congratulations! I just picked up my #1 Sporter yesterday. I have the 34" heavy barrel, LR Soule and a #113 up front in 45-70. So far I have found the chamber to be tight, my 457125 bullets have to be seated deep, hard with 65gr of FFg. I sincerely hope you enjoy your new rifle!

Any chambering issue, when you seat the bullet to just cover all the GG's?
Mic the bullet's nose. Anything over .4595 dia, and you will have a tight fit.

Gary,

It should be a nose that measures anything over 0.450" will be a tight fit.

.450 IS a tight fit. Too tight, in fact. Shoot straight, rdnck.

PM's stay in your box until the receiving party opens them. Then they go away.

I had a very good day with Dennis Armistead yesterday. he showed me how to make my bullets, load BP cartridges and we ended up shooting in the afternoon. Thanks, Dennis! Yes, I see why you take your time reloading, I'm sure I did well, because of following you reloading directions. Thanks!

You're welcome Mike, It was a fun day and we need to do it again. Next time we'll shoot the steel Javelina!

Well....After some great training from Dennis Armistead, I finally have my basic tools for releading. I'm purchasing bullets from Montana Bullet works for the time being. I went to the range this weekend and believe I found a load my rifle likes, 535 grn postells on top of 60 grns 2F Goex Black Powder. I've been using Goex since I have 5 lbs, I used it in my muzzleloaders forever. It's a dirty powder I know and requires a lot of wiping. Dennis introduced me to 1.5F swiss and mentioned the ole Ensford is also a good alternative.

Thanks, Dennis...Hope to meet you at the range in the near future.

Now if I can figure out how to post pictures here Id be squared away.

Cort-60gn(this is by weight-correct?)is kinda a 'lite' powder charge in the .45-70.
How much are you compressing the powder with the wad?

it's compressed 30 thousands, I'm still experimenting. I'm loading them as Dennis showed me a few weeks ago.

Goex likes compression, more so than most others do.
Add enough powder to compress .250.
