Soon to be Sharps owner

Post by Cort »

Good evening Ladies and Gents

Ive been contacted by Shiloh and my rifle began production on Sep 29. Ive read through the site when I have time. I will be using and loading BP cartidges in my rifle. Ive been a long time muzzle loader and love the smell of BP. Any advise on BPC loading would be welcomed.

Long range target, 45-70 with a 30 in a barrel, no show just a standard rifle.

Good choice for a first Sharps.
It will set the hook for sure, and you'll no longer have any savings account..... :P
What sights did you order?

MVA Mid Range # 108 will be fitted by Shiloh with the Shiloh #111 front sight. When I received my call in early Sep I was informed to call MVA and place the order with them. When I asked Shiloh when I should expect delivery they said since its a basic rifle with only pack hardening it should be ready for delivery in about three months. That will make it 24 mos from placing my order. The two years went FAST. I'm looking forward to great new years!!

Yes, Sir, The bank account is feeling it all ready. I've been gathering my BP reloading equipment. As for cases, I have Starline brass and understand they require annealing. This is a process as I understand it has to be done correctly or you could overheat and soften the case too much damaging it. I have much to learn and am a sponge craving info and guidance. I have FF BP but zero bullets to date.

If you want to shoot that rifle out to 1,000 yards get a different rear sight. A mid range does not have enough vertical travel to reach out that far. I don't believe.

I strongly suggest that you have them install a MVA, Long Range Buffalo Soule on the rear and I like the #113 with the bubble.
Also buy the Hadley Eye Cup.

Gents, your input is very helpful, thanks! I guess long range is a relative term. To me, 500 /700 yds are long range. I'm looking forward to just hitting steel at those ranges and was informed the sight package I have should work just fine.

The real advantage to the Buffalo Soule is it has TWICE the windage adjustment the STD Soule does.
I have it and very pleased with it.

Annealing is not brain surgery-This is pretty much how I do it.
You want the cases clean, and ready to load when you do this.
