Put enough powder in to compress about 1/8".
Then go up and down 2 grains at a time, to find the sweet spot. Listen to the target
You will have a better burn and won't see the grit you speak of.

What could be the case is that your powder charge is so low it won't be upsetting the bullet enough, causing gas cutting. 52 grains really is not much... I'd up the charge and yes, try some real BP lube.
sized cases? Neck tension? bullet off the lands/into the lands?

I just ordered the Lyman Borecam from Brownells for $174.99 plus $3.95 shipping. I do not know how long this price will last. :D

And I thought I did good at $199.99. I have had mine a couple of weeks now and like it. It really helps me see the areas of the barrel needing additional cleaning or lead removal. It also shows me details that I wished I didn't know about. Others have commented about that but I am sure I will get over it.

This is an somewhat old thread, but I am considering one of these Lyman scopes. For those of you that have them, do you still like it?

Also, do you think that it might be possible to dismount the handle in some way and then drop the camera down a long muzzleloader barrel? I realize that physical control might be challenging but it would be a plus to see the bottom of a 36" barrel.

BFD, cut the barrel in half. Problem solved............... :)
Seriously, the Lyman scope is a great product for the price, for what it does.................

brent,
don't waste your money or time.
the picture you get is just frustrating and as such is of no use.
if you have used a hawkeye you will know what i mean.
keep safe,

I have used a Hawkeye but I'm not willing to spend that sort of money. I need to see carbon - if it is there. Looks like the Lyman might do that for $175 plus tax and shipping. The Hawk will be 5 times that.

Brent, of course you have looked at past pictures and can see the resolution. Some try to justify their previous purchase by degrading new technology. As always, we need to move on.... The Lyman system is a good product, for the price, until something better comes along. FWIW......Good Luck...

maybe my old eyes have lost resolution, or teenage nocturnal manipulation has blinded me as my mother warned me it would.
i can't afford a hawkeye, but would really like one.
the problem with these things is you buy them to work out a problem, and then when you do that you no longer need them.
if the lyman turns out to be insufficiant, at least it is cheap.

A Volkswagen will break the speed limit just like a Maserati. Maybe not as fast, but just the same, it will break the speed limit. Comer and join us next year at our Nationals. I would like to shake your hand....................

I HAVE shaken hands with Bruce. You don't have to worry, he won't bite. And he's a pretty good guy actually. I really enjoyed meeting him. I have yet to meet an Aussie shooter wasn't a great person.

This site needs more shooters, not less, so smile and be happy (and nice).

I use a Hawkeye bore scope and it's great and I have seen the Lyman and they are good and really a lot easier and handier to use.

Brent when I was still plumbing I used one of these for tracing down water leaks through walls and ceilings to keep the damage to a minimum https://www.grainger.com/category/bores ... -IDPPLACAT you can find them at Menards or Lowes starting at below $50.
They come in all lengths and lens diameters that'll will reach to the bottom of muzzle loaders. It might be hard to find one small enough for a .22 caliber unless you see your butt doctor and see if he has a retired butt scope he would sell :)
