You want the Norma .45 Basic in 2.88" length.

Hey all have a new question I am looking at lubrisizers or lee’s Sizing die set. So if I am going to size cast bullets and paper patch them what sizer diameter do I need .457 and at .457 does this still give me enough room to paper patch?

If you want to shoot paper patched bullets out of that rifle you should try a Buffalo Arms "money" bullet that patches to bore diameter ( 0.450" or 0.449" in a bull barrel rifle ).

It's best to get a dedicated paper patch mold sized properly. I've used molds as small as 0.443" ( patched with 9lb Esleeck paper from Buffalo Arms ) and as large as 0.446" patched with Seth Cole 8 lb ( 55W ) paper. My bull barreled rifle uses a 0.444" bullet with 8 lb paper, but a regular heavy weight barrel has a slightly larger bore and will likely want a 0.445" or 0.446" bullet.

You can shoot them with lube cookies ( see Orville Loomer's book that Shiloh sells, or Randy Wright's book on the subject.

Or you can shoot them without lube wads. Read anything and everything that Kenny Wasserburger has written on shooting paper patched bullets in the .45 2-7/8".

Or, if you want to just shoot "naked" bullets I can say that my .45 2-7/8 likes a 16:1 BACO 459535M lubed with SPG over 93gr of Swiss 1.5. In my rifle that particular 0.458" bullet is a perfect slip fit in a Norma .45 case.

Found the NORMA Basic 45 cal 2.888 brass at Huntington die specialties out of Oroville, CA for $30.00 for 20 cases and available for those who need brass. I know either have everything ordered and on the way or already here to make greased bullets and sized lubed and put in the cases with powder and wads. For at least 60 rounds. The adventure is starting to come together.

I hope you got more than 20 cases. 150 or 200 would be a good start. rdnck.

Has any of ya’ll ever powder coated your bullets? I see where people are doing bullets with powder coating to keep down fowling. Wonder if it is even worth the effort?

I have a new question for folks. I have 3 different presses for reloading but it seams, now I have not started or even tried to load a case yet. I put a shell holder in 2 of my presses and put a 45-2 7/8 case in the shell holder and I don’t have much space to work ie. placing bullet in case or even crimping and looks like not enough room once dies go in. What would be best reasonable press out there for doing these large cases?

Thanks on the presses all. I also wonder what folks are using for case trimmers on these long cases?
