I printed it out so I wouldn't lose it. It will be a couple of weeks before I can get the comp die, naturally the local shops don't cater to BP, just tacticool. Still grinning!

You can make a simple drop tube using an alloy arrow shaft. Works for me.
Out in western NSW where it don't rain much.

Approximately what should my brass measure at the case mouth with a bullet seated? I am also not sure the 457125 bullet I cast is going to work, it engage the rifling with 1/4" of case still outside the chamber, I can clearly see the rifling marks on the bullet.

Compress the powder more and seat the bullet deeper then. You must have grease grooves showing on that bullet, the nose is way under bore in the moulds I have seen.

I don't use that bullet, so I have no clue.
If you just cover the top GG on the bullet with the case's mouth, you should have no chambering issues.
Are these marks on the bullet's nose?? Or the front 'band'?
What is the dia of the bullet nose? It should be .448-.449.
Can you post pictures so we can see the marks?

In a Shiloh you should be no more than 0.480" to 0.481" at the outside of the case mouth with a loaded round. If you are not used to loading for these rifles it is very easy to over-bell the case mouth.High Desert Hunter wrote:Approximately what should my brass measure at the case mouth with a bullet seated? Your bullet nose sounds like it is too big. You want to be 0.449" or under. If you've compressed the powder with the bullet you might find that you've swelled the nose one to two thousandths. This is very easy to do.

I should also add that sometimes you can get good accuracy with a bullet that has a slightly too large nose, but you will probably pay a price by leading the bore. As an example, I have a Long Range Express in .45-70 that really likes the BACO 459535M bullet which has an ogive starting at 0.452". It lightly engraves the front part of the ogive upon chambering. It is very accurate but will definitely leave behind some lead. The 458535M bullet has a smaller nose and is generally better.

YUP-if you are compressing with the bullet(VERY BAD IDEA ), you are swelling the nose.

Re: 45 2.1 Loading
I must still be doing a slight compression, I am going to cease and desist until the comp die arrives, need to fashion me a drop tube as well. My as cast bullet nose measures just under .450, this one measures .451, so either the lubrisizer, or the bullet seating is swelling the nose. The bands measure just a hair over .460, so I think I will try pan lubing some and seeing how that goes.

Should mention that the case mouths measure .481.

What is the nose dia as cast?
Can you size/lube them, by pushing on the base?
When seating-You just want the bullet base to 'touch' the top of the OPW.
I close the case mouth to .478"dia. on mine.
Is that mark, all the way around the nose?

Re: 45 2.1 Loading
LG, sorry the picture isn't better, the marks correspond to the rifling and do not go all the way around. The as cast nose diameter is .449ish, and I do the initial sizing with an NOE push through die that only presses on the base, however, it feels like there is still a little resistance when I run them into my RCBS lubrisizer, honestly feel I am still compressing powder as the cause of the swelling, should have a comp die this week.

You need to measure the bullet run-out, when seated in the case.
That bullet-Ain't 'straight', in the case.
