20-1 lead ingot to 16-1

Post by CaptnJack »

Howdy all.
I have about 50 lbs of 20-1 led alloy I was wanting to know if anyone had turned a 20-1 ingot into a 16-1 as to how much extra tin you need to add to make it a 16-1, 1 pound ingot. I will be making a 540gr PP bullets. :?: . I will be getting a hardness tester in a week or so.
Thanks.

20-1 IS 20parts lead +1 part of tin = 21 parts
50# divided by 21 parts= 2.38 # per part , so its also the amount of tin in the 20+1
so, 50# minus 2.38 # =47.6# lead
The 16+1 has 16 parts lead, 1 part tin
Divide the 47.6# lead by 16 parts = 2.976# per part , also the new amount of tin ( 1 part)
2.976 minus the 2.38# tin in the original 50# = 0.6# to be added to the 50# of 20+1.

Summary: to the 50# of 20+1 lead /tin,
need to add about 0.6# of tin and end up with
50.6 # of your 16+1 alloy
