Ask Kurt what a "little" 40-65 did at 800 to 1000yds at Lodi a few years ago.

beltfed,

Here's more perspective, it was said to humor Kurt & Deadeye, we've a long running banter about the in capabilities of the 40-65, especially Paul & I, or should I say Spot

"no one has a 40-65 that's capable of doing that"

Now Shadow beeeehave!!

Yup Arnies 99 at 800 with one a finger’s width into the 9 ring convinced me that I could put up with one so I had one build.
I’m At Baker Montana on the big hill with some normal winds blowing pretty hard tday again and I pulled out little missy the .40-65. The targets range from the 255 yard off hand bucket to 1023 yards for the long range.
I shot sighters for all in this wind along with using the .45-90. I’m ging to say that the .40-65 did not take the back seat in this wind today. I don’t know how strong it is but my guess it has to be 25 mph plus.
I started on the 500 yard diamond and first shot on was a clang and the rest all hit using two different bullets I cqnt say for sure what the lengths are I didn’t put it on the box but one weighs .406 ge and the other 423 gr I think it is around 1.465” long. When I got on the 1023 I hit 6 out of 7, missed the last shot from a wind gust. I Cant say enough n how I’m pleased with the performance of this rifle. This is the first I have had a chance to test this rifle at long range under some stiff winds with just a load thrown together to fit the brass to the chamber first firing this batch. If I had enough rounds laded to shoot the match with it would be on line with me.
Arnie I’m a believer :)

kurt,
so much for the nay sayers regarding 40 cals.
the 40.72 shooting a 1.5" long pp elliptical at 1300 fps would be a little better in the wind than your load, yet many have stated here that it could not compete with a 45.
i have shot this load for some years now, and cannot tell the difference out to 1000 yds between it and the 45/2.4".
the 1.5" long 40 cal bullet needs a 13" twist.
the good thing about these 40 cals is shootability compared to the 45s with long range loads.
keep safe,
bruce.

Finally got to shoot the 25:1 Money Bullet in competition. 45-90 Bull Barreled Shiloh. DGL lube. No fliers whatsoever. And almost NO leading. A couple teeny specks. So far it's a shooter!! Targets were 500 to 900 yds.

Kurt, pretty much give up on any shoots until the 1000, just can't justify leaving the hay crop stand while I'm off shooting. And this year was kind of a mess for you guys that went it sounds like with all the rain.
