I read of the JB treatment but JB does nothing but clean jacket metal out and perhaps polish a bit. It was not designed to clean lead shooting barrels.
A hand lapping or a few lap slugs may cure your problem. It certainly will harm nothing if carried out properly and it doesn't sound like you have anything to loose.

Be better to start with a different source for alloy.
JB cleans out lead, very well.

JB has not worked well for me in leaded bores. Nothing like Gunzilla on a tight patch or Lewis lead remover. It will however remove jacket fouling better than anything else I have tried.

I have put JB on a brass bore brush, and that has worked the best for me on a leaded up bore.

Gary, next time your near a big gun store pick up a small bottle of the Gunzilla and try it on a tight patch in a leaded bore. I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well it cleans out lead and how the treated bore will not lead up as much as before. A tight patch will squeal like a stuck pig as it peels off the lead onto the patch and you won't have to hammer the rod through.

Guys, his bore is not leaded. He shoots paper patched only.

I've been reading and watching, but still can't offer anything. I had a barrel that gave up the ghost once. Not enough rounds to be shot out, but it sure quit. Now three at the same time, that's too much of a coincidence. I'm kind of leaning towards an alloy issue, only because I don't know where else to look. Roofing lead is not pure lead, but I've used it extensively in bullet alloy and treated it as pure lead with no ill effects. Might cast up some new projectiles with pure lead/tin alloy and see what happens.

I had some of the same accuracy issues at Raton and actually all this year. I shot just a little better than you with the scope and so poorly in irons that I withdrew from the second day of the iron sight competition. My symptom was vertical dispersion in my 40-65. When I returned to Indiana, I used my leftover Raton ammo and shot a match at Friendship. Shot a 27 of 40 with 24 laydowns. Better than my Raton average and my best score of the year at Friendship. Still had vertical issues though. On the next day, I changed rifles and shot my 45-70 H/W with leftover ammo from last year. Shot a 30 of 40 with 26 laydowns. Three of those misses were easily my fault. In my case, I'm thinking I may have a slight forearm tension issue on my 40 cal H/W that is showing up the hotter the barrel is getting. We were shooting 10 in a row instead of 5 and 5. I've got enough leftover 40 ammo for some testing, just haven't taken the time yet. I've loaded the 45 for the next two months of matches and am casting for November now.

Good luck Brent.

What are the chances, that 3 known rifles all go 'bad' all at the same time?
Have you tried your loads in any other rifles?

Different lot of powder possibly? Or maybe the primers? Of course the primers wouldn't affect the muzzleloader

Rebarrel one with the most rounds fired in your favorite chambering and don't look back. My C Sharps High Wall gave up the ghost at about 10,000 and I didn't want to admit it. Bore scope showed nothing but slick. Odd that all three guns went tits up at near the same time. I have used GM barrels on muzzle loaders for a long time and seems I never got more than 3-4 seasons of competition and lots of practice out of one before it would lose it's edge. Those were all round ball barrels. Nothing seems to shoot as well as a new barrel.

I don't know if one could wear out a barrel with these loads just barely above sonic with lead or PP bullets unless the barrel has been mistreated. I used to keep track of primer bricks I shot through my rifles and my .50 Shiloh I shoot the most at the gong shoots went through 16 bricks till the primer shortage before the last and several more bricks went through this rifle since. The leading edges of the lands are showing that they are not as sharp and the reamer marks have worn away and the bore looks like it has been lapped to a mirror finish and on and off I had spells were I had a hard time holding 3 MOA at 200 yards but it always came back to it's good accuracy that has rewarded me with several dust collectors over the years.
When I get problems with holding accuracy with a rifle that has proved a good shooter it's usually my fault not controlling the rifle properly. Even changing powder lots or primers and I see vertical show up that is not normal I go through my ladder loads and make an adjustment and all comes back with a little work.
I can't rely on just one powder load and expect it to shoot the same lot to lot or all the time.

I think you’re shooting improperly loaded ammo. CO

how so?

and then how does that extend to the muzzleloader, or is that just a coincidence?

Guys, I learned many years and barrels ago that you can tell virtually nothing by looking at a bore and even with a scope it takes some time and experience to correctly interpret what your viewing.
Slugging or pin gauging a bore will reveal much more about accuracy potential in my experience.
Brent , might I suggest running a good load of grease bullets down bore and see if accuracy is still bad. That may be a method of determining if patch expulsion is the cause which is likely directly related to bore surface texture .
Kicking some ideas around!
