I agree that something is distorting the bullets

I thought some open discussion on the causes of distorted bullets or slumped bullets might be helpful

True, but we never came close to figuring out wasp-waisted bullets, so I don't want to chase that unless I know I have that problem. If i get enough snow this winter to work, I may be able to find out. I'll be building snow banks with a tractor. But there is less and less snow every year. Last year, we didn't have enough to catch for a BB Gun.

Sure would be nice to find away to catch bullets now out of these rifles , im betting when we can look at them the problem will be apparent and so a path can be found for the solution

Brent: at one time didn't you have a saw dust filled bullet trap? Or, was it a fellow Shooter? I think you once mentioned having one or access to one.

Yes I do. Was wondering when someone would remember that. I haven't used it in years but I still have it. After all, what are you going to do with 8 ft³ of toxic waste?

Anyway, I could use it but I filled it with boiled dust from my wood planer, And that is too coarse to recover bullet noses in good shape. Anyone who wants to build one of these would be well advised to use the finest sawdust possible preferably from a bandsaw. And no chips in their whatsoever. But I have been thinking about it.

Brent-On average, what is the bullet penetration depth, in this trap?
How far is the muzzle from it?

6 ft or so, 10 ft from muzzle, give or take.

I wonder if you fill a 55 gallon barrel of water and left the lid off, fabricated a wire mesh basket inside it and stood on a step ladder and shot straight down into it then pulled the wire basket out with the bullet in it if it would have hit the bottom of the barrel?

Oiled saw dust in a 12 inch diameter Sauna tube for concrete deck posts. Need about five feet of oil saw dust and you find find the bullet with a gold detector.

Has the weight, diameter, length and BHN of the current cast bullets remained the same as the bullets that shot well? If so, how can it be the alloy?
