Ammo boxes.
What are you using for ammo boxes? Kind of just looking for a plastic HD box that will hold 50-100/ 45-110 bullet side up. I have a few for the 45-70 but the bullet needs to go down in them also.. Looking at making wood ones this winter.

Re: Ammo boxes.
After going through multiple POS plastic things, I ordered one from Woody. After I got it, I ordered several more from Woody. I don't want to use anything else.

Great woodworking. I built some similar. I like though how you had the front "door" open. Makes it easier to unload. Mine is a box and you need to reach in. Great work. Gunner

Re: Ammo boxes.
The front door part was a the first design upgrade and that is an early box. Without it, I couldn't see into the box to put the empties back or pluck loaded shells out when lying prone. The latest designs carry that front door around the corner a short ways before angling up to the full height. That box is made to fit in another box which fits on a custom built cart. Neither of which are used any more, but the cartridge box is functional as a stand alone.
Building a box is fun but trying to find the perfect box is like searching for the perfect hunting boot. It doesn't exist, but there is always a better one over the next hill.
I think I'm close to the perfect line box, for my style of shooting anyway.

I've got to go with Woody, there is no limit to what he can build.

Re: Ammo boxes.
The plastic boxes are just J&J boxes. They are being phased out in place of wood.
This is my current line box
It will hold 90 rounds - enough for a 60-shot match plus sighters and more.

Re: Ammo boxes.
Thanks. It's not my first one. Earlier versions had ergonomic issues. This one is pretty good. It can be pretty heavy with 90 rounds of .45s but no one says you have to fill it. it can be made with an outboard cartridge holder as well, but I use a cartridge block with my patch popper instead.
