50-90 725 grain PP
I am on the list for a 50-90 Hartford.I cannot explain why, but I really want to shoot the 725 gr. paper patch out of it, just sounds like a lot of fun. My question is Buffalo arms has both a .502 & .504 “ mould. Should I go with the larger and adjust the paper, or am I wrong all the way around? Thanks ahead of time.

Both are for patching to Groove, which limits the powder capacity, to the same as a GG bullet.

Why not get an adjustable pp mould? I have one from Kal Tool and Die aka Red River Rick. I can make light bullets 500 grain-ish for my Saddle to almost 800 grain for my #1 Sporter 16lb big 50.

Re: 50-90 725 grain PP
Idahosmoke, as previously mentioned, an adjustable mold from kal tooling would give you a lot of opinions in addition to your current objective. if you're dead set on a BACO mould then give them a call and have them cut you something to fit your needs based off the same design. If you're using #9 onion skill paper then that'll add around .0065"-.007" on a cast bullet. So a .493" mould will give you bore diameter with that paper.
BACO, Steve Brooks, and Kal tool can all cut varying diameters and nose profiles. Just match your paper to the specifics or your bullet and bore; and match your bullet oal to the twist rate.

Kal tool was bought out and is now a shadow of its led self. I will contact BACO, good idea, as I did not know or realize they do their own mounds.

IdahoSmoke,
I don't know where you heard this, but Rick at Kal just donated a mould and a handle for our SE Regional coming up on Nov. 1-4. He makes excellent PP moulds. FWIW...............

IdahoSmoke,
I have an adjustable PP mold from KAl tool and die made by Rick Kalynuik of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in .45 caliber.
It is an excellent mold, and the adjustable feature is a great ability to have.
His molds are Top Notch. They are finished better than some rifles I own( Not Shiloh's of course).
He will build you what you want, and can advise you on what will work best for you.
He ships his molds worldwide, and they are well regarded.
My only complaint( although it is not the molds fault), is the bullets that drop from the mold are so smooth and nicely formed, that I always seem to drop a few during casting. That is my fault, and is only mentioned to illustrate how well made the mold is.
Steve Brooks and the Baco molds are very well made also.
Bob.

Yeah but not at 2700 feet per second. My 780 gr with 118 grains of Olde Eynsford launchs around 1200-ish feet per second. I’ll Chrony it next time I take the rifle out.

Powerful hunting round. 780-grain at over 1200 FPS. How is the recoil of that rifle?

I must have settled on the 'varmint' bullet by the looks of these entries . At 'only' 690 gns over 114 of Swiss 1.5... that's quite enough to get my attention thank you very much. Not sure I'd want to settle into a two day Creedmoor shoot with that load though
